Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – Hydrogen Storage
Location: Leeds, UK (On-Site)
Salary: £90,000–£130,000
Experience: 8+ years in hydrogen storage R&D, materials science, or electrochemical systems
Reports to: CEORole Overview:
As the CTO, you will lead the scientific and engineering team to develop next-generation hydrogen storage technologies. You will oversee R&D, prototype development, and intellectual property strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead R&D on hydrogen storage solutions (compressed, cryogenic, solid-state).
Oversee development of pilot projects and industrial-scale storage systems.
Define the IP strategy (patents, licensing, university spinout agreements).
Recruit and manage a team of engineers, scientists, and manufacturing experts.
Work closely with regulators on safety and compliance certification.
Requirements:
PhD/MSc in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Energy Systems.
Expertise in metal hydrides, MOFs, cryogenic storage, or compressed hydrogen.
Experience in scaling up lab-based hydrogen storage to industrial applications.
Understanding of ISO 14687 (Hydrogen Fuel Quality), ASME & UK hydrogen safety standards. -
Business Development Manager (Hydrogen & Energy Sector)
Location: Leeds, UK / Remote
Salary: £60,000–£85,000 + Commission
Experience: 5+ years in B2B sales, cleantech partnerships, or industrial energy solutions
Reports to: CEORole Overview:
You will drive sales, secure partnerships, and commercialise the company’s hydrogen storage solutions. Your role will involve engaging with utilities, industrial gas suppliers, hydrogen refuelling stations, and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and secure B2B customers for hydrogen storage technology.
Develop partnerships with energy utilities, transport companies, and industrial users.
Write and pitch grant applications (Innovate UK, BEIS, EU Horizon grants, etc.).
Lead negotiations for pilot projects and government-funded hydrogen trials.
Represent the company at industry conferences, investor meetings, and regulatory panels.
Requirements:
Strong network in hydrogen, energy storage, or industrial gas sectors.
Proven track record in B2B partnerships, sales, and securing funding.
Experience in UK & EU hydrogen policies, funding programs, and certifications. -
Hydrogen Storage Scientist (Materials Science / Chemical Engineering)
Location: Leeds, UK
Salary: £55,000–£80,000
Experience: 3+ years in hydrogen storage R&D
Reports to: CTORole Overview:
As a Hydrogen Storage Scientist, you will develop, test, and optimize advanced hydrogen storage materials and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Research solid-state hydrogen storage (metal hydrides, MOFs, boron compounds, etc.).
Conduct material synthesis, characterisation, and performance testing.
Optimise hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetics, pressure-temperature stability, and capacity.
Work with industry partners to scale up lab-developed storage systems.
Requirements:
PhD/MSc in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Energy Storage.
Experience with hydrogen adsorption, metal hydrides, or cryogenic storage.
Strong data analysis and lab-scale experimentation skills. -
Compliance & Safety Officer (Hydrogen Storage Regulations)
Location: Leeds, UK
Salary: £50,000–£75,000
Experience: 5+ years in hydrogen safety, industrial gas regulations, or chemical compliance
Reports to: CTORole Overview:
This role ensures the company meets all UK/EU hydrogen safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with ISO 14687 (hydrogen quality), ISO 16111 (metal hydride storage).
Conduct hazard assessments (HAZOP, HAZID, DSEAR compliance).
Work with government agencies (HSE, UK Hydrogen Strategy, BEIS, Innovate UK) to align storage solutions with national regulations.
Develop and implement hydrogen storage risk assessments & safety training.
Requirements:
Degree in Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or Regulatory Compliance.
Knowledge of UK hydrogen safety laws, industrial gas storage codes (ASME, PED, ATEX).
Experience working with hydrogen infrastructure, refueling stations, or industrial storage. -
